For the last seven years I have worked in Adult Social Care in the South East of England. I loved my job but increasingly I found the frustrations of the job were impacting on my wellbeing. Days at work were spent sitting at a computer, sitting in my car or sitting chatting to clients in their homes. Although the work was hugely rewarding, the day was always a battle against the clock and the computer systems to get the most urgent things done. On a good day I would leave work feeling satisfied that I had done a good job and made a difference to someone’s life. On a bad day I would feel emotionally exhausted and feel that every bit of everything I could possibly give had been sapped from me. The tension and discomfort in my neck and shoulders was getting worse. I had put on 3 stone in the seven years which I put down to my completely inactive lifestyle. I didn’t have any energy left to do anything after work. Eventually I reached a point whereby I felt my job was affecting my health. I wanted a more active lifestyle and the energy to follow my creative interests.
I have got to know Skye well the last few years through visiting my very good friend Sam who lives up here in The Highlands on Knoydart. Almost 3 years ago we decided on a whim to jointly buy a little croft house. The house is on the Waternish Peninsula in NW Skye. What better place to go to seek a new more active, more simple and more creative lifestyle. The purpose of my blog is to share my experiences with you, the good, the bad and the ugly.
