My summer jobs are all coming to a close within the next few weeks. My job at Kinlochfollart ends tomorrow which means I will have four days a week free from next week. I had a day off today, and after doing some shopping in Portree I took a drive around the Trotternish Peninsula. I couldn’t resist stopping to see Quiraing Lodge in Staffin, for this is where I stayed on my very first visit to Skye back in 2001 when I came to Quiraing Lodge with some of my photography buddies for a photography workshop. At that time the lodge was owned by my friend Sam who I now own a house with! I barely knew him back then. Sam sold the lodge a good few years ago and it has been redeveloped by Columba 1400 and is now run as a retreat. I haven’t been inside the lodge since then but have seen photos of it and it is very different. It’s all very smart and immaculate and the grounds have been manicured to within an inch of their lives, but the character and soul of the place has been lost in the process in my humble opinion.
