So many roads on Skye are single track roads with passing places. It can be quite a sociable experience driving along the single track roads. The vast majority of drivers are so polite and sometimes it feels like a contest to see who can pull over into the passing place first to make way for the oncoming driver. Oncoming drivers will always acknowledge that you have stopped for them by a hand gesture of a friendly wave and the person who has stopped to give way will then acknowledge that they have been acknowledged by gesturing back! It is such a welcome change from living in South East England where there are so many obnoxious drivers on the road. I have often thought I would like to send those obnoxious drivers up to Skye for a couple of weeks to have a lesson in road manners!
